Challenge
The Specialist Services Committee (SSC) needed 18 sets of cohesive vector illustrations to guide patients and surgeons through varying levels of pre-operative exercises. The illustrations had to align with their existing brand and function clearly as educational material across diverse communities in BC.
Approach
The original visuals needed to feel like a natural extension of the SSC brand while being easier to follow. After reviewing what was provided, the full scope came into focus: 47 unique poses were needed to accurately illustrate all 18 exercise sets.
Solution
Each illustration began as a sketch before being traced and refined in Illustrator. Representation was a priority throughout, with a range of ages, genders, and ethnicities reflected across the figures to speak to the diverse communities this material would reach. The purple, orange, and blue come directly from the brand palette, with colour used selectively to emphasize the type of movement being shown. Simplified clothing, objects, hair, and no facial expressions keep the figures approachable and anonymous, so the focus stays on the exercise itself.
