Challenge
Farewell Harbour needed a new brand identity that conveyed their sense of luxury and remoteness.
Approach
Farewell Harbour was founded in 1986 on Berry Island, a secluded location north of Vancouver Island. The resort takes its name from Commander Pender's final survey stop en route to Alaska, and is best known for whale watching. That layered story became the foundation for every design decision that followed. The goal was to create a brand that felt minimal and memorable, one that could signal luxury without overstating it.
Solution
After sketching and iteration, the identity was reduced to its essentials. The whale tail nods to the resort's signature experience while doubling as a gesture of farewell, a quiet visual nod rooted in place. The north star references Commander Pender's historic survey stop, grounding the mark in the location's past. The brand identity system was built out across a colour palette, type system, and brand mockups.
